Today was Silas' 6 month check-up. Yep, you heard that right, Silas will be 6 months old on Saturday! It's kind of crazy to think about in all honesty. Most of the fall was an absolute blur/majorly traumatic, so it is hard to believe it has been 6 months. Anyway...Silas got a great report from the pediatrician. He's 13lbs 4.6oz, 24.25" and "very well-fed, well-cared for, and well-loved" according to Dr. Peters. He's almost getting himself on the growth chart for his actual calendar age. He's in the 75th percentile for his gestational age and his head circumference, length, and weight are all growing as they want to see. We were very happy!
Dr. Peters gave us the go ahead to start solid foods, which we had secretly already started this week in an effort to encourage sleep. We are starting with rice cereal and will be adding purees soon. Silas really likes the rice cereal and is doing well sitting in his high chair.
Dr. Peters and our early intervention supports are encouraging us to work with Silas on opening his hands more and grasping at items, as well as being in the sitting position. Silas still hates tummy time, but we need to do some more of that to get him lifting his head up more and working towards eventually crawling. We will keep on working with him!
We are continuing to meet with Silas' ophthalmologist regularly. His ROP is stable, but hasn't resolved itself yet. Our ophthalmologist is now having us go to appointments once a month, and we will keep you all updated. The ophthalmologist is the only specialist Silas is going to see now, so it is manageable.
Last weekend, we had a great visit from my mom (Nana) and my sister, Marissa. Marissa hadn't seen Silas since he was a tiny little thing, so she got some special snuggles with him. Silas seemed to like her a lot. We have taken Silas on two different outings now to the houses of some good friends. He's been very well behaved both places and we thank Monica & Julie and Kayla & Em for entertaining and feeding us. Mostly we liked feeling like normal people who are allowed to leave the house. Dr. Peters said it was OK for us to start venturing out a little more in April. We still have to try to keep him away from sick people and ask people to wash their hands before they hold him, but we can at least take trips to visit family in Maine and CT!
